Tallinn in Summer: A Complete Guide to the Warm Season

Up to eighteen hours of daylight, warm seas and a city that finally exhales. Here is how to spend a Tallinn summer — on the water as much as you possibly can.

📋 11 ideas 📍 Tallinn & around 🗓 Updated 2026

Tallinn in summer is, genuinely, a different city. The daylight stretches past 23:00, the Baltic warms just enough to swim, the terraces overflow and everyone — locals included — heads for the water. It is the best time to be here, and the only time the sailing boats come out.

This is the complete guide to the warm season: how to chase the long light, where to swim, which islands to reach, and how to spend the kind of slow, golden evenings Tallinn does so well. Several entries are ours — summer is what we live for.

Skippered Yacht Charter on Tallinn Bay

Summer is the whole reason the boats come out. The Estonian season runs mid-May to mid-September, and a private sail on the bay is simply the best way to spend a warm afternoon here — the skyline, the open Baltic and the boat all yours.

No experience needed, the bay is calm, and we shape the trip around the weather and your group.

Chase the midnight sun

Around midsummer the sky barely darkens — sunset near 23:00, a long blue dusk, and sunrise before 04:30. Plan late dinners, late walks and a sunset sail that runs well past most cities’ bedtime.

The light alone is reason enough to visit in June.

⛵ Our service Sunset Sailing on Tallinn Bay

June–August · 2.5 hours · golden hour

Sunset Sailing on Tallinn Bay

The defining summer experience. We leave about two hours before the sun touches the horizon and ride the bay as the sky turns peach, then gold, then deep navy. Bring a light layer — it cools fast once the sun is gone — and let the evening stretch out.

Pirita beach days

Soft sand, pine forest, water that is swimmable by July, and the convent ruins right beside it. Pirita is the city’s easiest summer escape — pack a picnic and stay for the seaside sunset.

⛵ Our service Naissaar by Yacht or Speedboat

Yacht 2h · speedboat 30 min · full day

Naissaar by Yacht or Speedboat

Summer is the only season the island boats run. Naissaar — forest, beaches, Soviet ruins and almost no one — is the perfect warm-weather day trip. Our speedboat gets you there in thirty minutes; the yacht in two hours.

Bikes at the harbour, a swim from the south beach, a picnic, and you have it to yourself.

All summer

Open-air everything

Tallinn lives outside in summer. Telliskivi’s courtyards fill with food and music, the Open-Air Museum’s seaside village comes alive, and rooftop dinners and outdoor concerts pop up across the city. Follow the terraces and you will not go wrong.

07

June–August

Festivals and Jaanipäev

The warm months are packed — music, food and arts festivals across Tallinn and beyond — and the heart of it all is Jaanipäev (midsummer, around 23–24 June), when the country heads to bonfires by the sea. Check what is on and build an evening around it.

08

July–August

Swim in the Baltic

It is bracing but genuinely doable by midsummer. Pirita, Stroomi and Kakumäe beaches all warm up, and the local move is the sauna-and-sea-dip combo — heat, plunge, repeat.

09

Calm mornings

Kayak or paddleboard the coast

On a still summer morning, a sea kayak or paddleboard along the Kakumäe or Pirita shoreline shows you the coast at water level — quiet, close to the birds, and a completely different city.

Backup plan

A spa afternoon when it rains

Even a Tallinn summer has the odd grey day. Hedon’s pool, rooftop and sauna are the perfect plan B — book the quiet 11:00 slot and let the weather pass.
